Let us introduce you to this happy, older gentleman. This very good boy is Domino. Even though he is blind, Domino is a happy, friendly dog. He thinks his quality of life is just fine, thank you! Domino is house trained, walks very nicely on a leash, does well at the vet and loves kids. He could probably live with another mellow dog or a cat, starting with complete separation. He really is a chill office companion, and will always let you pick what to watch on tv, as long as he can curl up close by. Domino is the best of boys and deserves a family of his own. Do you have room in your heart for Domino?
Meet Emma! This sweet, silly, sensitive staff favorite came to us as an owner surrender due to allergies. In the home and in our care, she has presented as fearful around new people or in unfamiliar situations. By taking it slow and going at her pace, we have seen her start to blossom into a silly and sweet girl, growing more confident greeting strangers and exploring new spaces. Her favorite things include romping with dog friends, snuggling her people, zooming around outside, and settling down with a frozen Kong full of cream cheese. Since becoming more comfortable in the shelter environment, we have seen Emma start to approach strangers on her own to offer loose, excited greetings. She’s looking for an adopter who’s prepared to adjust their expectations to move at her pace and support her through a difficult transition. Though she may always exhibit fear in new situations, we have seen that she’s capable of facing her fears and growing her confidence, as long as she’s not rushed or pressured. She’s looking for an adopter who’s willing to take it slow for the first few weeks to set her up for long-term success in her new home!
Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Emma. We have open adoption hours 7 days a week from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.

This absolutely gorgeous dog is James. In his previous home, James was mostly living outside and really did not get to meet many new people or dogs, or experience new sights and sounds. Now, James is hoping for an adopter who will give him time to decompress and adjust to his new life. Good boy James is so very smart and trains quickly using a clicker. He loves long sniffy walks or romping around in a yard. He has also decided that car rides are awesome and will go with you wherever you want to go. While James was able to take walks with other calm dogs, living with another dog would currently take a good deal of management. James has successfully lived with cats in his previous home. And if children are old enough to practice petting consent and help with his training plan, James may be able to live with kids.
If you think James could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday – Sunday from 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm with no appointment or application needed.

Here at the shelter she’s presented as uncomfortable around other dogs, and we think she’d prefer to be your one and only. Meet Sunshine! True to her name, this sweet girly is big, bright, and wants to be the light of your life. She’s been through a lot of hard transitions recently, starting when her owner passed away. In the shelter environment she was shy at first, but quickly blossomed into a goofy and affectionate girl. She loves to explore, play with stuffed animals, and soak up all the attention she can get! Sunshine has big feelings about the volume of other dogs here at the shelter, and is looking for a home where she won’t need to see or interact with other dogs. It’s a big ask, but when she looks at you with those gorgeous hazel eyes like you’re the only person in the world, you’ll know she’s worth it. If you’re excited about positive reinforcement training and are searching for your other half, Sunshine might be the girl for you!

Hound lovers rejoice! Meet Whisper, an active gal who loves sniffy walks and romping around with her dog friends. Whisper came to us by way of the South, so we don’t know a lot about her history. She can be very worried in new environments, and is still getting the hang of living in a house, so she’s likely to need support as she transitions to living in a new home. Whisper is looking for an adopter with some patience and a good sense of humor, and who’s ready to help her channel all of her energy into good manners and home skills using positive reinforcement training methods.
As a curious kiddo who likes to try and sniff out snacks and other fun things, Whisper will definitely need some environmental management while she’s adjusting to living in a house to ensure she’s making all the right choices! She might like to go home with a well-matched dog friend, and may potentially be able to go home with a dog-savvy cat with complete separation to start. Any children in the home should be old enough to participate in her training and management plan, and to give her space as needed while she adjusts.
If you’re ready to help Whisper shine, stop by our Cape Cod Adoption Center during open hours and our team would be happy to tell you more about her!

Bea is a big, goofy girl with a heart just as large as her paws. Despite being young, she’s been through more transitions than any pup should, and she’s ready to finally settle into a home where she can catch her breath, build confidence, and just be a dog.
Bea thrives with kind, patient people who understand that adjustment takes time. She’s eager to learn and does best with positive reinforcement training, which will help her fine-tune her manners and feel secure in her new routine. With encouragement and consistency, this sweet girl is sure to shine.
Bea can happily live with tolerant, playful dog siblings who enjoy canine company. She does not have any known cat history.
Any children in the home should be old enough to actively participate in her transition and ongoing training, helping her feel supported and set up for success.
If you’re ready to give a deserving dog the stability she’s been waiting for, Bea may be your perfect match.
Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Bea. We have open adoption hours 7 days a week from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
Meet Alex a lively, lovable pup with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Alex is currently on the road to recovery after TPLO surgery and is recovering from heartworm treatment. While he is on activity restriction for now, do not let that fool you, this boy has energy to spare and a playful spirit thats just waiting to shine once he has healed.
Because of his high energy and temporary limitations, Alex will need a patient and experienced home that can help him channel that zest for life into brain games, enrichment activities, and plenty of mental stimulation. He is working hard on being a good boy during recovery, and he is making great progress with structure and support.
When he has had his fill of mental fun and the zoomies are out of his system, Alex melts into a total cuddle bug. If you`re looking for a smart, spirited companion and you`re ready to help guide him through his healing journey, this squishy guy just might be your perfect match.

Meet Chucky! He’s a smart, active, silly guy who loves training and sniffy walks. Chucky is a foodie, and will happily settle down with a long-lasting chew after a nice walk or game of fetch. He walks great on leash with a harness, and enjoys zooming around our yards with his dog or human friends. Chucky has had mixed experiences with other dogs, and generally does well during supervised play but should ideally be the only dog in the home. If you’re excited about positive reinforcement training, have a good sense of humor, and don’t mind a bark that sounds *exactly* like a seal, Chucky could be the dog for you!

Her foster called her an absolute angel. Meet Mirage. She is gentle, sweet and low energy. A favorite pastime is napping on the couch. Mirage also enjoys leisurely walks and walking with her mellow dog friends. Pretty Mirage takes treats very gently and seems to be house trained. And she really, really loves to be pet by her new best friends. Since Mirage was found as a stray, we do not know any of her back story. We do think she could probably live with a calm dog or a dog-savvy cat. And children old enough to participate in training should also work. With all the recent changes to her life, Mirage will probably need some time to decompress and settle into her new home. Does this good girl sound like the dog for you?

Suzie is a pretty lady with a lot of personality. She enjoys going for walks and get pets from every person she meets. In typical lab fashion, Suzie enjoys playing fetch and eating things she is not supposed to. She isn’t a fan of sharing snacks or her food so it will be important to have good management around resources. Suzie has signs of arthritis in her hips and her family should have a good relationship with a vet to help keep her comfortable as she ages.
Stop by our Boston Adoption Center to meet Suzie. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm - 3pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
