Externships for Veterinary Technology Students
Angell Animal Medical Center offers externship rotations to interested veterinary technology students. A wide variety of rotations are available to externs: Cardiology, Critical Care, Dentistry, Diagnostic Imaging, General Medicine, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesia, and Surgery. Externships may involve observation only or may incorporate hands-on experience. Externs will work closely with team members to complete daily tasks.
The externship program offers an excellent opportunity for veterinary technology students who wish to observe a busy, urban, referral specialty practice. The program also offers the opportunity for those interested in pursuing employment at Angell to view the hospital first-hand and speak with our team.
If you are a veterinary technology student and you would like more information about the program or would like to request an application, please e-mail us at lcordaro@mspca.org.
Externship at MSPCA-Angell at Nashoba Valley Technical High School
MSPCA Angell at Nashoba is a community veterinary clinic located at Nashoba Valley Technical High School in Westford, MA, which is approximately one hour to the northwest of Boston. The purpose of this veterinary clinic is to provide clinical training and education to the veterinary assistant students at the high school, visiting veterinary students/externs and interns, and to provide access to veterinary care for pet owners with low incomes.
At Angell at Nashoba, the veterinary extern can expect to gain hands-on clinical experience. With some guidance and oversight from the medical director/attending doctor, the extern/intern will see medicine cases as the primary doctor and perform surgeries that would be performed routinely in private practice.
The externship can last for one to two weeks. No housing or transportation is provided, so the extern will need to make arrangements for both. The clinic is open from 7:30am – 4pm Monday through Friday, and the extern is expected to be present during those hours of operation. We will accept one extern per week at this time. Please note, any student scheduled for an elective at the clinic is considered a commitment- if change is necessary, please contact Andrea Lombardi at alombardi@angell.org at least 2 weeks prior to your scheduled start date.
MSCPA-Angell at Nashoba will be open year-round except for the following holidays:
New Year’s Day, Patriot’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
If you would like to schedule a time to come to Angell at Nashoba or have questions about our externship program, please email Andrea Lombardi at alombardi@angell.org .
