MSPCA-Angell Bolsters Leadership Team with Two New Executive Hires

New Chief Development Officer, Chief Information Officer Begin September 2

BOSTON, Sept. 2, 2025 – The MSPCA-Angell is bolstering its leadership team with the hiring of two experienced executives to fill vital roles within the organization, it announced today.

New Chief Development Officer, Mike Travis, is joining the MSPCA-Angell from the Boston Children’s Museum, where he served as the Vice President of Philanthropy and led fundraising efforts beginning in 2019.

“Over the course of his career, Mike has built an impressive track record of success across all areas of fundraising—including major gifts, corporate and foundation partnerships, planned giving, and digital and direct response campaigns,” said MSPCA-Angell President, Neal Litvack.

“He’s mission-driven, tenacious, and familiar with all philanthropic happenings in the Boston area—all of which will be vital in ensuring we have the resources needed to care for thousands of animals both locally and nationally amid this changeable economy.”

“For me, the MSPCA-Angell’s mission is deeply personal,” said Travis, a proud pet parent to two Boxer dogs and two cats. “Animals have an extraordinary ability to bring joy, comfort, and healing into our lives.”

“I’m honored to join this remarkable team of professionals and volunteers whose dedication changes—and often saves—lives every day. I look forward to building the resources we need to ensure the MSPCA-Angell can continue its lifesaving work for generations to come.”

Tony Spangenberg will take the helm as the MSPCA-Angell’s new Chief Information Officer, joining from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, where served as a Vice President of IT since 2022.

“Tony has deep experience in leading back-end systems operation and development, as well as program management,” detailed Litvack.

“He’s a forward-thinking collaborator with expertise in implementation and change management that will be vital as we work to utilize constantly evolving technology to improve operations across our hospitals, clinics, and shelters, and enhance cybersecurity to ensure we’re protected from whatever technological threats arise in the future.”

“I love fixing problems and building teams—and I wanted to do those things for a mission-driven organization that I’m passionate about,” said Spangenberg, who owns a mixed-breed rescue dog named Boo.

“In this role, I look forward to leading a talented and dedicated team that will build and maintain systems to allow the hospitals, clinics, and shelters to run more efficiently—making the client experience better and allowing us to serve more people and animals.”

Both Spangenberg and Travis will start at the MSPCA-Angell September 2.
