The Ophthalmology Specialty Service at Angell Animal Medical Center Boston is uniquely qualified to provide extensive diagnosis and treatment of inherited, acquired or traumatic conditions involving the eyelids, cornea, iris, lens, retina, optic nerve and orbit. Examinations are provided on a wide variety of species using direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, Schirmer tear testing, topical fluorescein staining, tonometry, gonioscopy, ocular ultrasonography, CT, MRI, and electroretinography (to detect retinal degeneration). Cataract removal with lens implantation is available, as well as surgical correction of eyelid disorders, and laser and cryotherapy for the treatment of glaucoma, iris tumors and retinal detachment.
