Description:
This is an opportunity for people who are excited to engage with the public. Adoption Center Greeter volunteers serve as a welcoming presence to visitors at our Methuen adoption center.
Responsibilities:
- Greeting visitors as they enter our Methuen adoption center.
- Directing visitors where to go based on their reason for coming to the shelter.
- If volunteer is able, bringing donations into the building to keep our entrance clear.
Qualities/Skills:
- A friendly demeanor, and comfort greeting strangers.
- An understanding of appropriate interpersonal interactions, including with children.
- Empathetic, non-judgmental approach.
- Being bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus!
- The ability to stand, sit, or do a combination of both for the duration of the shift. In this role we can accommodate individuals who need to remain seated the entire time.
- The ability to lift and carry up to 40lbs, and walk medium distances. (For bringing in donations.) For this role, an exception to these requirements can be made if a requirement for accommodation in this aspect is disclosed on your application.
- Proficiency in using a computer without assistance, and learning new programs. All volunteers digitally log hours and use an online scheduling function. For this role, if the volunteer will be accompanied by and supported by a job coach or other human services professional, or a family member, that person can assume computer-related functions on behalf of the volunteer.
Requirements:
- Attendance at a virtual orientation. You will be invited to this if accepted as a volunteer.
- After attendance at a virtual orientation, a tour and on-the-job training is required.
Time Commitment:
- A weekly shift on a set day, 12pm-2pm.
- Current days accepting applications: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
- Minimum of 3 month commitment to a weekly shift, after onboarding. (Onboarding takes up to approximately one month after acceptance.)
