Concierge – Shelter – Methuen

Description:

This is an opportunity for people who are excited to engage with the public in the name of helping animals. Shelter Concierge volunteers should have an attention to detail, strong customer service skills, be adaptable to the changing needs of the adoption center, and be excited to be a representative of the MSPCA and our programs. In addition, they must have previous experience with answering phones and using email on a desktop computer or laptop.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Answering live phone calls and checking voicemails
  • Writing down messages for staff
  • Responding to adoption center email inquiries, once trained on our email system
  • Collaborating with staff members to represent our programs and provide accurate information to clients on a variety of topics

 

Qualities/Skills:

  • Good customer service skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly legible handwriting
  • Proficiency with using email and the internet on a desktop computer without assistance, and with learning new programs. All volunteers digitally log hours and use an online schedule function. Shelter Concierge volunteers perform additional tasks on a computer as a core part of their role.
  • This role is not suited to those who primarily access the internet using their phone and/or an ipad, without recent experience in an office environment using multiple programs on a desktop or laptop.
  • Empathetic, non-judgmental approach, including regarding animal surrenders.
  • Ability to work well both independently and with others. This role requires a high degree of independence.
  • Being bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus!
  • Experience answering phones in a professional setting is a plus!

 

Requirements:

  • Attendance of a video orientation with Volunteer Coordinator
  • Training at the adoption center with a volunteer mentor. This can presently only be offered certain weekdays.

 

Time Commitment:

  • A weekly one or three hour shift on a set day and time.
  • Weekday open shifts are Monday 1:00pm-4:00pm, Wednesdays 7am-10am, and Thursdays 7am-10am. The Wednesday and Thursday shifts begin at 8am until volunteer is fully trained on both phones and email, and could be 8am-10am long term if a volunteer cannot begin at 7am. Applicants for the Monday shift must be available for the entire three hours.
  • We are in need of weekend volunteers for this role! Weekend shifts are just one hour. We are accepting applications for shifts starting at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 3pm, and 4pm on Saturday, and have all hourly shifts from 10am-4pm available on Sunday. Training for these shifts must be done on weekdays.
  • Minimum of 6 consecutive months; longer commitments welcome!
