Meet the General Medicine Team in Waltham

Julie Shields, DVM

Dr. Shields grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, Canada, until she moved to NH in 2000. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology with a minor in Chemistry from Plymouth State University. In 2004, Dr. Shields moved to St. Kitts to attend Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical year of training at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she worked at a practice in Medfield, MA, for 15 years. Dr. Shields is excited to join Angell-West to help expand your pet’s care through the Primary Care/Wellness service. She enjoys all aspects of general medicine, including preventative care, dentistry, and building long-term relationships with her clients and their pets. In her free time, Julie enjoys camping, traveling, and spending time with her husband, her two kids, and her Goldendoodle Wiley.

Tamara Kremer Mecabell, DVM

Dr. Tamara Kremer Mecabell is a veterinarian from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She completed her Animal Sciences degree at Hebrew University and her Veterinary School at the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine in Israel. Tamara started as an oncology tech at Angell in 2005 and completed her Small Animal Medicine internship at Angell before working in Newton for seven years. Dr. Mecabell worked in a clinic in Framingham before settling in Needham in 2023. She’s been performing dental procedures on pets since 2017 and is passionate about improving their smiles. She’s also interested in Geriatric medicine and helping people care for their aging pets. She speaks Spanish, Hebrew, Portuguese, and English. Tamara enjoys hiking, exploring new places, listening to music, and singing with her family. She volunteers in food banks and helps local new immigrants.
