Description:
The MSPCA is seeking qualified, reliable, volunteers age 21+ to drive MSPCA vehicles, aiding us with animal transport and Community Outreach Programs. Volunteers will be driving transit vans between multiple locations in Massachusetts, with the occasional potential for optional further travel.
Responsibilities:
Van driver volunteers will safely transport animals and/or supplies between locations. Applicants must be willing to drive between all four MSPCA shelter locations. These are located in Methuen, Salem (MA), Boston, and Centerville.
Additional locations drivers may sometimes be asked to travel to include Logan Airport, Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, Worcester Airport, and other animal welfare organizations in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Drivers may be asked to travel to and participate in Community Outreach (“CO”) events such as vaccine clinics and food drives. Most CO events will be in Lawrence, Lowell, or other towns near Methuen.
Qualities/Skills:
- Age 21+
- Able to pass criminal background check and motor vehicle record check.
- Past experience driving a transit van, bus, RV, or other large vehicle.
- Professional driving experience a plus!
- Ability to lift and/or pull up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
- Comfort handling crated animals.
- Reliability and punctuality are key for this role!
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Applicants must have a flexible schedule with daytime weekday availability.
Requirements:
- Attendance at virtual orientation.
- Hands-on driving training with staff.
Time Commitment:
- Frequency of requests may vary. Volunteers taking on this role should be able to make a minimum of 4 trips per month, with the majority being on weekdays during the day.
- Flexible schedule with daytime weekday availability required for this role. Many transport needs have little advance notice. 24-48 hours is normal, but we have same-day calls for help at times.
- Minimum of 1 year commitment duration. Longer commitments encouraged!
