MSPCA-Angell Raising Funds to Save “Cheddar”
BOSTON, April 17, 2018 – On April 9 a good Samaritan was driving along Anne Drive in Taunton when a van just ahead of him slowed to a stop before a door opened and a small terrier-mix dog was tossed to the street. The van then sped away.
The good Samaritan rushed to the dog’s side, scooped him up and brought him home, where he cared for him for two days before bringing him to the MSPCA-Angell in Jamaica Plain, where veterinarians examined him.
The dog, who the medical staff believe is between five to seven years old, was laden with puncture wounds across his shoulders and torso—injuries consistent with an attack by a larger dog or possibly a coyote. He also has an abdominal hernia that requires surgery to repair.
Surgery and a New Life for “Cheddar”
The MSPCA is raising money to help save the dog the staff have named Cheddar.
“This is a dog who’s been through the ringer and we want to do everything we can to get him well and get him into a safe, adoptive home,” said Alyssa Krieger, community outreach coordinator for the MSPCA-Angell. “Our primary medical fund is often depleted due to the large number of animals in our care and we’re hoping Cheddar inspires folks to donate if they can.”
Anyone who wishes to donate toward the cost of Cheddar’s care, and animals like him, can do so by clicking here.
“He’ll likely have surgery tomorrow and we’ll also neuter and microchip him,” said Krieger.
Cheddar is on a mandatory four-month quarantine due to the wounds of unknown origin that he received but he will be placed for adoption after the quarantine expires. Anyone interested in adopting can email adoption@mspca.org.
“Due to the bite quarantine, Cheddar won’t be able to meet with people for four months, but we will gladly share information about him with potential adopters,” said Krieger.
