Harriet Nevins Donates Rest Farm to the MSPCA
In 1917, the MSPCA opened its first permanent animal shelter at Nevins Farm in Methuen, MA.
Mrs. Harriet Nevins donated the 55-acre rolling pastures — now known as MSPCA-Angell: Nevins Farm — with the intent on the land being used as a rest home for horses and other unwanted or abandoned animals. Her donation was accompanied by a $5,000 bequest toward building construction and the purchase of necessary farm implements and machinery.
