Boston Transport Volunteer

Description:

The MSPCA is seeking qualified, dedicated volunteers to help with local animal transports. Volunteers will be driving large transport vans between multiple locations in Massachusetts, with the potential for occasional further travel and/or need for use of their personal vehicle. There will also be opportunities to help with Community Outreach programs. Candidates with weekday availability and/or candidates who can be available on short notice are strongly encouraged to apply!

Responsibilities:

Transport volunteers will safely transport animals and/or supplies between locations. Locations include but are not limited to MSPCA shelters in Boston, Methuen, and Cape Cod, Northeast Animal Shelter, Logan Airport, and Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. Drivers will travel to and participate in Community Outreach events such as vaccine clinics and food drives.

This is a hands-off role with animals. For safe confinement in the vehicle, most animals will be in carriers or crates. Crates will be provided by the MSPCA.

Qualities/Skills:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Valid, current driver’s license
  • Able to pass criminal background check and motor vehicle record check
  • Past experience driving a van, bus, RV, or other large vehicle
  • Professional driving experience a plus!
  • Ability to lift and/or pull up to 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Comfort handling crated animals
  • Reliability and punctuality are key for this role!
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Weekday availability a huge plus!!

Requirements:

  • Attendance at orientation
  • On-the-job training with staff
  • Minimum 6 month commitment
