Clinic Support Volunteer – Methuen

Description:

This is a great opportunity for people interested in what goes on behind-the scenes of a veterinary clinic, and those interested in pursuing careers in the veterinary field. Clinic experience is helpful but not necessary. Clinic Support volunteers assist with sterilizing instruments, cleaning kennels after animals have been discharged, washing floors, and other housekeeping duties in the clinic. There is no animal handling involved in this position. This position will not provide training for skills such as intubation, blood draws, anesthesia, or monitoring animals in recovery.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Sterilizing used instruments
  • Creating sterile instrument packs to be ready for future surgeries
  • Cleaning kennels and resetting them for future patients
  • Sweeping and mopping floors
  • Cleaning surfaces after surgery
  • Miscellaneous additional support tasks as requested by staff

 

Qualities/Skills:

  • Ability to work well in a small, busy area
  • Ability to work independently and with other volunteers
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to act fast and follow staff directives in emergency situations
  • You must be able to remain active for your entire shift, which will involve standing, using a stepladder, crouching, reaching, and lifting.
  • Applicants should be capable of being in close proximity to surgeries and animals in process of recovering from anesthesia.
  • Proficiency in using a computer without assistance, and learning new programs. All volunteers digitally log hours and use an online scheduling function.

Other:

For this role, volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and their own personal vehicle. Exceptions can only be made for those aged 16 or 17, with parental confirmation that they are able to drive their child weekly at the shift time.

Requirements:

  • Attendance at a virtual orientation
  • On-the-job training

 

Time Commitment:

  • One weekly two or four hour shift on a set day and time.
  • Shifts currently available for this position are Tuesday 8am-noon, Tuesday 1pm-5pm, Tuesday 3pm-5pm, Wednesday 3pm-5pm, Thursday 8am-noon, Thursday 1pm-5pm, Thursday 3pm-5pm, Friday 3pm-5pm, Saturday 8am-noon, and Saturday 1pm-5pm. We are only able to accept applications for those with matching availability for an open shift.
  • Minimum of 4 consecutive months. Longer commitments welcome!
