MSPCA Boston Clinic Discharge Volunteer

This is a wonderful opportunity for those who enjoy meeting new people and interacting with the public. The MSPCA-Angell Clinic Boston offers spay/neuter surgery to qualifying applicants of our low-cost program and primary care clients of Angell Animal Medical Center. You will assist the clinic staff with discharging patients from their spay/neuter surgeries. There may be some handling of dogs and cats inside their carriers.

  • Greet clients and explain discharge instructions, post-operative care, and medications
  • Bring pets out to their owners
  • Assemble patient medical cards for future appointments
  • Build e-collars as needed
  • Miscellaneous tasks as needed by clinic coordinators; ex: filing, taking down phone messages, etc.

  • Excellent customer service
  • Some experience with animal handling
  • Empathetic, non-judgmental approach to the public
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work independently and with staff members
  • As this role requires frequent verbal and written communication, applicants must be fluent in English.
  • Spanish speaking a plus!
  • Proficiency in using a computer without assistance, and learning new programs. All volunteers digitally log hours and use an online scheduling function.

  • A commitment of at least six months
  • A weekly 2 hour shift on a set day and time
  • Attendance of orientation and on the job training with clinic staff
