MSPCA Boston Clinic Housekeeping Helper

Description:
Assist with closing down tasks in our busy surgery clinic. You’ll learn to:

  • Sterilize endotracheal tubes and surgical instruments
  • Wash, dry, fold laundry, surgical towels and drapes
  • Use an autoclave to sterilize surgical instruments, towels and drapes
  • Clean kennels thoroughly for disease control purposes and set them up for the next patient.
  • Restock syringes and other miscellaneous items needed for surgical day

Responsibilities:

  • Sterilization of endotracheal tubes and surgical instruments
  • Wash and fold laundry and surgery towels
  • Run the autoclave
  • Sanitize kennels after animals have gone home
  • Various tasks depending on the day
  • Be able to work by yourself

Qualities/Skills:

  • Good open communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow directions
  • Able to meet the physical demands of this role, which require variable amounts of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stooping.
  • Able to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • As this role requires frequent verbal and written communication, applicants must be highly proficient in English.
  • Proficiency in using a computer without assistance, and learning new programs. All volunteers digitally log hours and use an online scheduling function.

Requirements:

  • A commitment of at least six months
  • A weekly shift on a set day and time
  • Attendance at an orientation and on-the-job training
  • Applicants must be 18 or older

Available Shifts: 

  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays: 2pm – 5pm
