MSPCA Boston Community Outreach Pantry Prep and Organizing Volunteer

Description:

At the core of the MSPCA is the belief that families and pets belong together. While our adoption programs work to bring people and pets together, our Community Outreach programs work to keep families and pets together.

We strive to achieve this goal by offering affordable and accessible animal care resources to families who need them, through our own pop-up events as well as providing supplies directly to local food pantries. We are looking for volunteers whose values align with this mission to help keep our Community Outreach hub at our Boston shelter organized and prepared for on- and off-site popups, and client drop-ins.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare regularly-needed supplies for pop-up events by dividing into approved proportions based on Community Outreach guidelines
  • Keep Community Outreach office organized and clean
  • Sort through a variety of textiles and other donations (leashes, toys, carriers etc.) to determine suitability for distribution
  • Sort through items donated to the shelter to determine if they are usable or appropriate for Community Outreach needs

Qualities/Skills:

  • Age 18+
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-directed and comfortable with independent work
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to use good judgement and follow guidelines when it comes to sorting and prepping supplies

Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must have own transportation to Boston MSPCA
  • Have an interest and passion for directly addressing inequities in access to pet care resources
  • Attendance at an orientation and on-the-job training

Available Shifts:

  • Varying availability Monday – Friday between 8am and 4pm
  • Commitment of at least 6 months with a recurring shift
  • We are unable to accommodate requests for alterations to the schedule. Please ensure you will be available for the full duration of a shift before applying. Thank you!
