Description:
This is an opportunity for people who are excited to engage with the public who are seeking community veterinary care for their pets. The volunteer will assist the clinic staff in admitting clients for their spay or neuter surgeries. There is no animal handling involved in this position. This position takes place in the morning from 8AM to 10AM during the week.
Role of the Volunteer:
- Greet the client and collect veterinary information of the pet. Identify whether the pet has fasted, been to veterinarian before, vaccinations that are needed and any additional services the client is seeking.
- Discuss surgery consent form with client and ensure client agrees to the form and fills it out completely.
- May assist with contacting veterinary hospitals for medical history and possibility to learn surgery preparatory work.
Volunteer Necessities:
- Excellent customer service
- Empathetic, non-judgmental approach to the public
- Ability to work independently and with staff members
- Computer proficient
- Spanish speakers preferred!
Time Commitment:
- At least six months
- Set weekly two hour shift
- Attend a volunteer orientation and receive on the job training
