MSPCA Cape Cod Clinic Recovery Volunteer

Description:
Volunteers in this role will work closely with veterinary staff to monitor patients during the recovery process after surgery and assist with clinic cleaning and organization. As this is not an easy position for everyone, we will schedule those accepted for a shadow shift to make sure it’s a good fit. Veterinary technicians and assistants are encouraged to apply!

Responsibilities:

  • Moving patients from the operating room to recovery cages
  • Extubating recovery patients and ensuring they are warm, safe, and comfortable
  • Monitoring/comforting patients before and after surgery and alerting veterinary staff with any concerns
  • Feeding animals after surgery
  • Cleaning animal kennels that may have urine, feces, vomit, or blood present
  • Assisting with housekeeping duties such as laundry and clinic organization

Qualities/Skills:

  • Veterinary technician or assistant experience preferred but not required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to meet the physical demands of this role, which require variable amounts of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stooping
  • Able to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs
  • As this role requires frequent verbal and written communication, applicants must be fluent in English

Requirements:

  • Attendance of a shadow shift, volunteer orientation and onsite training
  • Applicants must be 18 or older
  • Weekly four hour shift on a set day for a minimum of six months
  • Reliable transportation

Available Shifts:

  • Monday: 8:30AM to 12:30PM
  • Friday: 8:30AM to 12:30PM
