First Horse Event Since 2023 Follows the Arrival of Hundreds of Animals Related to Law Enforcement Investigations
Methuen, Mass., Jan. 28, 2026 – Adoption fees will be waived for some horses at the MSPCA-Angell at Nevins Farm in Methuen on January 31 and February 1, the MSPCA-Angell announced today.
The event follows the arrival of more than 300 animals related to Law Enforcement investigations.
“We don’t often waive adoption fees for horses, but capacity at the farm is extremely tight right now,” said Erika Tonnon, placement coordinator at Nevins Farm.
“Given that many of the animals will be with us indefinitely because they’re related to active [Law Enforcement] cases, and it’s only a matter of time before another case brings more horses or other large animals into our care, we really need to find homes for those we’re able to adopt out.”
According to Tonnon, winter is also generally busy for farm animal surrenders because owners are not able to supplement feed for animals that graze during warmer weather.
“We want to be there for all the animals who need us, but in order to do that, we need to open up space that’s occupied by the horses already in our care,” she added.
Adopt a Horse!
The adoptathon takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on January 31 and February 1 at the MSPCA-Angell at Nevins Farm in Methuen. During that time, adoption fees that typically range between $300-$1500 will be waived.
“We’re looking to find homes for six really great horses,” Tonnon explained. “They all came to us through Law Enforcement activity, so we’ve gotten them healthy and showed them the love and care they needed to move on to the next chapter of their lives.”
“Now, we’re looking for special adopters who can meet them where they’re at and continue their healing journeys.”
No appointment is necessary. Those interested in adopting are asked to bring photos of the enclosure, shelter, or boarding facility the horse will be kept in.
“We haven’t held this kind of event in several years,” said Tonnon. “We’re really hoping that people hear our need and give some of these horses the happy homes they deserve.”
