The MSPCA-Angell Chosen as a Petco Love and BOBS® from Skechers® Pet Love Stories Winner

BOSTON, Mass., April 7, 2023 – Local pet adopter Rhonda Jackson’s heartwarming love story about how her adopted guinea pig changed her life is earning the MSPCA-Angell a lifesaving grant award from Petco Love.

National nonprofit Petco Love, in partnership with the philanthropic BOBS® from Skechers® collection from The Comfort Technology Company™, put out the call for animal welfare organizations nationwide to share love stories about how their adopted pet changed their life. Their stories gave the organization they adopted from a chance to receive a lifesaving grant from Petco Love as part of the Petco Love Stories campaign. Now it’s time to celebrate the winners!

Rhonda Jackson’s story is selected as one of 18 national winners

The MSPCA-Angell will receive a grant award from Petco Love and BOBS® from Skechers® ranging from $5,000 to $100,000. Rhonda Jackson will also receive a pair of BOBS® footwear and a Petco shopping spree.

“Our Petco Love Stories campaign is in its tenth year, and there is no end to the amazing, emotional stories of how pets change our lives,” said Petco Love President, Susanne Kogut. “These winning Love Stories capture the love we all feel for our pets. They celebrate the lifesaving act of pet adoption and the unconditional bond we share with our pets who enrich our lives in so many ways.”

Jack Pawkins’ Winning Story

Rhonda adopted Jack Pawkins, a guinea pig, at the MSPCA’s Adoption Center at Nevins Farm in Methuen, Massachusetts in 2015. A year after the adoption, the two got Jack Pawkins certified to be a therapy animal, and he was henceforth known as Dr. P. For many years, Rhonda and Dr. P have traveled all around Massachusetts, from the New England Home for the Deaf in Danvers, to Worcester Recovery Center, to Reading Public Library, and more, bringing joy to many people of all ages.

Petco Love Stories Campaign

Since 2013, more than 20,000 adopters have shared how their pets have changed their lives in the annual campaign, with Petco Love granting nearly $7 million to the hardworking animal welfare organizations making these adoption matches possible. For more, visit petcolove.org/lovestories.
