Sunshine truly lives up to her name. She’s a big, bright personality with so much love to give, and she enjoys being right in the middle of the action with her people. After some recent changes, she started out a little shy in the shelter, but it didn’t take long for her playful, affectionate side to shine through.
In the shelter environment she was shy at first, but quickly blossomed into a goofy girl. She loves to explore, play with stuffed animals, and soak up all the attention she can get!
Sunshine has big feelings about the volume of other dogs here at the shelter, and is looking for a home where she won’t be required to interact with other dogs. It’s a big ask, but when she looks at you with those gorgeous hazel eyes like you’re the only person in the world, you’ll know she’s worth it. If you’re excited about positive reinforcement training and are searching for your other half, Sunshine might be the girl for you!
Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Sunshine. We have open adoption hours 7 days a week from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
Meet Waffles! She loves going on leash walks alongside other dogs, hanging out in the shelter office with her human friends, and enjoying chew toys and treats. She has shown us she can be a happy, bouncy pup and we know she`ll bring her new family endless joy! We think Waffles may do well living with a well-matched canine sibling.
Waffles has been through a few transitions recently and may need a gentle start, but once she feels secure she`ll reward you with endless love and loyalty!
If you think Waffles could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday – Sunday from 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm with no appointment or application needed.
Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they are interested in and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.
We’d like to introduce a very special cat named Bob. He is a three year old playful cat that loves getting pet, playing with toys, and has a regressive case of FeLV, or Feline Leukemia Virus which may shorten his lifespan, and we are hoping to find him a loving indoor-only home where he can live out his life. Despite his diagnosis, he is a social and affectionate cat with just about all humans! Bob would need to be the only cat in the household, or have feline friends that also have FeLV. Interested adopters should click the inquire button below to learn more and shelter staff will provide additional counseling on FeLV and answer any questions at the time of adoption.
More info on FeLV can be found here: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951934

Mulberry is as sweet as his name! He is excited to meet people and once he warms up, hes an absolute social butterfly. Mulberry enjoys playing outside and also settling down in a comfy spot with a good chew. Mulberry is looking for an adopter who is excited to get to know him and learn his signals. He is also looking for time and space to decompress and learn all about his new home. We dont know if Mulberry has lived with another dog but has met some dogs while with us. Mulberry could live with another dog given a thoughtful introduction. We do not know if he has lived with children or cats. He could possibly live with a cat given a thoughtful introduction. This rat is part of a large surrender so we have less individual information about them. The group of females have a good history living with other females, and are social with people. They tolerate handling, but may still benefit from additional socialization, and an adopter that understands it may take them some time to warm up to their new home and the people in it. These rats will need to go home in pairs (or more) or to a home with existing female rats to have as companion.
Rats are nocturnal, highly social and extremely intelligent animals! Due to the highly social nature of rats we prefer to match them with homes with existing rats, or to adopters looking to take home two or more rats. Rats can be food driven (and great foragers!) making them excellent animals to train. We always recommend the use of positive reinforcement training with your animals, and are happy to provide more information on this topic.
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows the rat plenty of space to exercise. The minimum cage size should be 2’x2.5’x2’, with good ventilation (no glass enclosures) and must have a solid base. Preferably the shelter includes multiple levels, with appropriate use of linens or paper bedding and lots of rat appropriate toys. Rats should never be housed with other animals, each species should always have its own housing.
The needs of each rat are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rat you are interested in, please visit us and talk with our volunteers/staff! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Blueberry is a younger female rabbit who can be shy at first, but once comfortable can be social and friendly. She is litter box trained, and has a good history living with older kids (teens). She will prefer to live in a quieter home, possibly with a well matched rabbit companion. She does have a history of chewing on everything around, and will benefit from a rabbit proofed space and lots of appropriate chewing enrichment.
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows a rabbit to stretch their legs and move around. The needs of each rabbit are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rabbit you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice

Checkout Girl is currently in a foster home, email her foster mom at cbourgoin@mspca.org for more information.
Calling all goths, night owls, third shift workers, tender hearts, black cat aficionados, and feline savvy people: meet Checkout Girl, though she may not be excited to make your acquaintance in return. This lady’s history is a bit of a mystery, but we do know she spent the last few years of her life living in a grocery store where she hid all day and only came out at night to do her Cat Things. Checkout Girl likely has limited socialization around people and has still been keeping vampire hours in her foster home. But she has also shown some twinkles of promise with slow, and gentle interactions. A quiet, adult only home with *very* low expectations and a high cat IQ will be her best chance at success, cat friends encouraged! If you’re willing to give Checkout Girl a chance at moving from the stock room to a living room email her foster mom at cbourgoin@mspca.org to find out more.

The God of mischief himself- Loki! Except this squishy faced cutie isn’:t all that mischevious. He’:s a strong gentle giant that enjoys meeting new people and going on walks. While he means well, his strength can sometimes cause a bit of mischeif- perhaps pulling on leahs while excited or jumping up to greet new friends! With some proper training using positive reinforcement, we can turn this sweet boy into the perfect gentleman. He’:s dreaming of a nice quiet oasis to call his home. Unfortunately for this boy, he does have some ongoiong skin issues that will require some support from a veterinarian. That doesn’:t take away from his good looks though- look at that face! Loki would prefer a home and a lifestyle that does not involve other dogs- he wants to be the one and only! If you think this guy could be a match for you, please come meet him!
Stop by our Boston Adoption Center to meet Loki. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm - 3pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.

Billie is a smushy young pittie mix looking for her new home! This sweet kiddo likes to hit the trails to explore and sniff around, and loves to wrap it all up with some snacks and couch time with her people. Bille can be a bit reserved at first when making new friends, but warms up quickly and is looking for a patient family who can give an adopted dog some time to decompress in the new home. Billie has had a hard time meeting dogs in her short life, so she would prefer to be the only dog of the family!
Billie’s a dog with a heart as big as her size, so her greetings can be a little on the rude side – potential adopters should be prepared to help her learn how to get someone’s attention without jumping on them! Luckily she is a foodie, and loves to train using positive reinforcement methods.
This sweet, smushy girl has been through a few transitions recently, and may need a gentle start, but once she feels secure, she’ll reward you with endless love and loyalty!
If you think Billie could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday – Sunday from 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm with no appointment or application needed.
