This cute little lady goes by Ellie. Our friend Ellie has not had an easy past. She’s from an unsanitary and unsafe enviornment where she was likely unable to do “normal dog” things. becuase of this, Ellie is fairly hesitant and unsure about the world around her. She’s an older lady with an old soul. She likes to quietly putter around and relax. Ellie’s dream home is somewhere warm and cozy, with a nice squishy dog bed and fluffy blankets to nestle into. her dream home would let her get comfortable at her own pace, without any expectations aboutt how fast she will warm up. Ellie is also experiencing some level of blindness, so a home that is set up to accomodate her visual impairments is a must! If you are looking to open your home to a worried old couch potato- she is ready for her next chapter!
Stop by our Boston Adoption Center to meet Ellie. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm - 3pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.

Meet Neo! This sweet, sensitive guy has been through multiple transitions in his young life, and is looking for a quiet, dog savvy home of his own! Our behavior team is excited to work with his new family on how to best support him as he settles in to his new life. Once he is comfortable, Neo is a wiggly, waggy, cuddly pup who loves long sniffy walks, and quiet time with his friends.

Molasses is a little Over the Garden Wall soul—she may be wary of new paths and unfamiliar faces at first, but once she knows you, she warms right up and leans in for all the gentle scratches and pets. Still learning her way through the woods, she’s wonderfully treat-motivated and excited to train with someone who’ll guide her kindly toward her happily ever after. Molasses could live with another role model dog, a dog-savvy cat, and/or kids who are excited to participate in her training.
Stop by our Boston Adoption Center to meet Molasses. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm - 3pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
Meet the sweet and sensitive, Red. This girl has had a pretty rough past, but she’s ready to start fresh. Red came from an unsafe and unsanitary enviornment where she never got to practice being a “real dog.” This means that everything outside of her previous living environment is new(and therefore, frightening) to her. She is looking for a safe place to land where she can slowly come out of her shell at her own pace- without any expectations. She would benefit from a very quiet, predictable environment where no social pressure could be put on her.
Stop by our Boston Adoption Center to meet Red. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm - 3pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
Apollo is an older male rabbit who can be very loving once comfortable! He is litterbox trained, has a good history living around kids, and loves to run the home. He does have a history of chewing on cables, and will need to be in a rabbit proofed space.
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows a rabbit to stretch their legs and move around. The needs of each rabbit are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rabbit you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice

Many housing units sold in pet stores are too small for the behavioral needs of Rabbits. If you looking to purchase housing, visit our web page for recommendations on the best housing for small animals.
Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!
Stop by our Cape Cod Adoption Center to meet Tommy. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 1pm-4pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.

Case is the perfect puppy package handsome, smart, sweet, playful and full of potential. What more could you ask for! At only 8 months old Case`s lucky adopters will get to experience the more `mature` side of his puppyhood (congrats on escaping the nipping-shark-teeth stage!).
Case is a happy, bouncy, wiggly pup who has been responding well to positive reinforcement training since coming into our care. He loves to play and is full of energy, and will make a great companion for a hiker, runner, or anyone who loves being outdoors. Case has done well playing with a few of the calmer dogs at the shelter, but the more rambunctious ones with rowdier play styles seem to make him a little nervous. Because of this, we think Case would be happy as an only dog, or potentially with a canine sibling who is on the calmer, more mellow side.
Case is an eager learner is looking for a patient owner to help him master polite greetings, leash skills, and puppy basicstraining together will be a fun and rewarding journey!
If you think Case could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday – Sunday from 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm with no appointment or application needed.
Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they are interested in and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.
Bouy Wonder is a happy, bouncy guy who`s always on the move! He enjoys leash walks with his human and canine friends, and having a good `rough and tumble` play session with dogs who have a similar play style. Bouy Wonder is handsome, smart and full of energyhe`s looking for a family who`s looking to bring some excitement (and love!) into their life, and who has time to give him the mental and physical stimulation he needs. Buoy Wonder could possibly live with other dogs, cats and/or kids after a successful meet-and-greet at our adoption center.
If you think Bouy Wonder could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday – Sunday from 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm with no appointment or application needed.

Meet Marshmallow! This bouncy girl is full or spunk! She is very smart, and is doing great as she begins her work on her manners. She is looking for someone who is dedicated to using positive reinforcement training to continue this work so she can shine in her new home! Her favorite things include long sniffy walks, and romping around the yard with stuffy toys. Once she is comfortbale, she is also a great snuggle partner.
Marshmallow has a pretty forward & pushy approach when interacting with other dogs, and should be the only dog in the home. Once her family gets to know her more, she can potentially have dog friends with slower introductions. This happy girl is still honing in her housebreaking skills, and would need a puppy proofed space to slowly acclimate to house life! Your new adventure buddy awaits, come see her today!
Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Marshmallow. We have open adoption hours 7 days a week from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
Meet Chucky! He’s a smart, active, silly guy who loves training and sniffy walks. Chucky is a foodie, and will happily settle down with a long-lasting chew after a nice walk or game of fetch. He walks great on leash with a harness, and enjoys zooming around our yards with his dog or human friends. Chucky has had mixed experiences with other dogs, and generally does well during supervised play but should ideally be the only dog in the home. If you’re excited about positive reinforcement training, have a good sense of humor, and don’t mind a bark that sounds *exactly* like a seal, Chucky could be the dog for you!

This dove is part of a large surrender that came to us in part due to overcrowding. They did not receive a lot of socialization so they can be shy and skittish around people, but if given enough time to adjust can be lovely companions. They are currently living in groups and do well with other doves.
Doves can be tamed but tend to be more “hands off” birds. They tend to vocalize throughout the day with a “coo”, dissimilar to the screeching or whistling of many other birds. Doves can be found around the world, and can live up to 10 years with proper nutrition and care. We recommend that doves live in pairs or groups whenever possible.
We recommend a cage that is at least 32”x23” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ?-¾” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of flat surfaces to perch on, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Unlike many other species of birds, doves are unable to climb up cage bars, and tend to move back and forth making a wider cage more appealing to them. Doves should be provided with regular opportunities for bathing, and unlike parrots require grit as part of their regular diet to aid in digestion.
The needs of each dove are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the dove you are interested in, please visit us and talk with our volunteers/staff! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Budgerigars, the most common parakeet we see, are native to Australia where they live in massive flocks in the grasslands. Parakeets tend to be docile, gentle, can be easy to tame and can even talk! Despite their small size, these birds can have large vocabularies and can make a wonderful training companion. We recommend that parakeets live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Parakeets can live up to 7-15 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Nests can be provided but should be removed if any females begin to lay eggs. We do not recommend a seed only diet as it can lead to malnutrition and other potential issues, please consult your vet for specific diet recommendations.
The needs of each parakeet are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the parakeet you are interested in, please visit us and talk with our volunteers/staff! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Let us introduce you to this happy, older gentleman. This very good boy is Domino. Even though he is blind, Domino is a happy, friendly dog. He thinks his quality of life is just fine, thank you! Domino is house trained, walks very nicely on a leash, does well at the vet and loves kids. He could probably live with another mellow dog or a cat, starting with complete separation. He really is a chill office companion, and will always let you pick what to watch on tv, as long as he can curl up close by. Domino is the best of boys and deserves a family of his own. Do you have room in your heart for Domino?
Meet Friendly! Friendly is a special type of cat we lovingly call a Spirit cat! Spirit cats are very shy and prefer to spend time out of sight. New people and environments can be overwhelming at first and adopters should expect to see very little of Friendly as they are settling in. We often can’t predict how a spirit cat will be after they settle in – some become comfortable around their family and choose to spend time with them by sharing the same space or allowing some petting, while others continue to prefer to hide when there’s any commotion. Spirit cats generally prefer to spend their time around other cats and make an excellent kitty friend to a cat already in the home. Our staff can help prepare adopters to welcome a spirit cat into a quiet home, but patience and understanding will go a long way with Friendly.
Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Friendly. We have open adoption hours 7 days a week from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.

Jade is a charming older gal who is looking for that special someone to be the center of her world. Jade is a busy lady who would thrive in a quiet environment with a consistent routine and a family who is ready to make adjustments as she continues to settle in. Jade can be a tad worried when meeting new people, but once she warms up, she is falling into your lap wanting endless pets. She is a dog with some medical needs and requires a close relationship with a vet. Jade says no thanks to living with dogs and maybe to living with quiet tweens or teens. If you think Jade sounds like the companion you’ve been waiting for, come in to start the matchmaking conversation!
Astro is a super sweet and energetic young guy who is ready for his next adventure! He is very playful, and is looking for an active family who has lots of time and energy to help keep him entertained. Astro loves other dogs and would likely do well with another high energy friend who can keep up with him! Astro loves to snuggle with everyone he meets, and always enjoys running around in the yard. He would likely make a great companion for someone who wants a running buddy or who lives an active lifestyle.
Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Astro. We have open adoption hours 7 days a week from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
Meet Cookie! This sweet, sensitive girl is looking for a quiet and understanding home to call her own. She came to us when her family’s landlord stopped allowing pets, after they raised her from a puppy. Cookie has a history of house training, loves to snuggle up to her people, and easily self-entertains with toys. Once she feels safe, she truly believes she is a lap dog.
Cookie is shy, and can be fearful with new people and in new environments. When uncomfortable, she may try to avoid interaction or communicate that she needs space. She’s looking for a patient adopter who understands dog body language and can read her in these moments, advocate for her needs, and help her feel safe and comfortable as she settles in. Cookie has shown that she is uncomfortable around other dogs, and would prefer to be the only dog in the home. She’ll need an adopter who is committed to avoiding dog-heavy environments, and can provide leash walks in quiet areas or access to private, fenced-in spaces. A nice quiet neighborhood will be best for her comfort.
Cookie has a history of living with a cat, and could be successful again with slow, thoughtful introductions. She may do well in a home with kids who can help provide structure and training support as she continues to learn, and who understand to let her approach and interact on her terms. With time, consistency, and positive reinforcement, Cookie will be a deeply loving, affectionate companion. She is searching for a calm home, a predictable routine, and someone who is ready to meet her where she is, and earn her trust one gentle step at a time.
Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Cookie. We have open adoption hours 7 days a week from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
Meet Indigo, a sweet, slightly shy senior pittie who enjoys naps, calm companionship, and being close to her people. She’s an easygoing, affectionate dog who would do best in a quiet, low-key home. Indigo has a few manageable medical needs and will need a future knee surgery, but she’s otherwise a gentle, content companion. She could live with a respectful dog who understands her shy tendencies, would do best in a cat-free home, and is looking for humans who can practice calm, considerate interactions. If you’re searching for a relaxed, loving dog who’s happy to take life at a slower pace, Indigo may be the perfect fit.
