Cat Lovers Rejoice: The “Big Snooze” Kicks Off Today!

BOSTON, May 1, 2015 – Cats across the Commonwealth are celebrating the kick-off of the “Big Snooze,” an online-only fundraiser for the MSPCA-Angell’s animal protection and veterinary programs that promises big prizes to cats who nap the longest, and cat owners who engage their families and friends to join in!

Online registration for the Big Snooze is up and running at www.mspca.org/bigsnooze.com.

The idea for the Big Snooze was spawned in the wake of last year’s Walk For Animals—the annual MSPCA fundraiser on the Boston Common that brings thousands of dog lovers together to celebrate animals.  Few cats participate in the Walk because, as every cat owner knows, they much prefer a nap on a sunny perch to a walk around the park.

For this inaugural Big Snooze the MSPCA has set a goal of raising $10,000 to fund critical animal protection programs.

Big Snooze 101

Participating in the Big Snooze is a cinch.  Cat owners are encouraged to put together a fun and personalized Snooze fundraising page—complete with photos of their dozing kitty—then use social media to spread the message far and wide.  Registration begins at $15 but cat owners can donate more if they like—and encourage their friends and family to do the same!

The cat(s) who nap the longest (e.g., raise the most money!) are in the running for feline-fantastic prizes, including a pet portrait from celebrated photographer John Hensel, an ArubaCat cat tree, gift cards from Especially for Pets and other fun giveaways.

A live online Big Snooze honor roll keeps tabs on all feline nappers so owners know exactly how their pets are doing relative to all others.
