Construction Crews are Readying Site for State-of-the-Art Facility to Replace Existing Centerville Shelter
BOSTON and Centerville, Mass. July 17, 2017 – MSPCA-Angell officials have made good on last November’s promise to begin constructing the all-new 11,500 square foot animal care and adoption center in Centerville, which today is abuzz with activity as crews prepare the site for the next phase construction.
Even as adoption center staff make the rounds caring for roughly 1,500 animals at any one time—a combination homeless animals awaiting adoption and owned animals arriving for low-cost community spay and neuter surgeries—a team of construction workers are busy leveling the site, clearing brush and pouring concrete for the foundation.
21st Century Facility to Meet Community’s Evolving Needs
The MSPCA expects the new adoption center to open in 2018 and will include space for medical and behavioral evaluations; a modern treatment and spay and neuter clinic for homeless animals; and a multi-purpose training and education room for greater collaboration with local schools and community groups.
The new building is made possible through the generous support of some 500 Cape Cod donors. Donors poured over $2.65 million into the “Campaign for Cape Cod,” and MSPCA-Cape Cod director Mary Sarah Fairweather is thrilled that these supporters will see their generosity reflected in the all-new adoption center.
“It’s fantastic to announce that building the bigger and better MSPCA-Cape Cod is proceeding apace,” said Fairweather. “Not only will the animals in our care be more comfortable in the larger and brighter adoption center but we’ll soon have the space to roll out long-awaited programs such as dog training and other services that our community has been clamoring for.”
Once the new adoption center is built Fairweather and her team plan to expand a growing roster of community and educational programs that include story time for youngsters; a burgeoning food pantry for needy pet owners; and programs to socialize pets placed with U.S. veterans and their families.
Construction on the adoption center will accelerate over the next few months and the MSPCA will plan an open house for members of the media and the public once the building is finished.
