All Dogs Aged One and Older Available to Adopt Fee-Free December 5 – December 8
BOSTON, Dec. 4, 2024 – The MSPCA-Angell and several of its Massachusetts Animal Shelter Support (MASS) coalition partners are teaming up to host a special “Home for the Holidays” adoptathon for all dogs aged one and older.
The event begins Thursday, December 5 and runs through Sunday, December 8 at all four MSPCA Adoption Centers, Worcester Animal Rescue League (WARL), Berkshire Humane Society, and Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center (TJO), as well as non-coalition partners Lowell Humane Society and Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton.
“This time of year often elicits feelings of love, joy, and warmth for people—all things we really want the animals in our shelters to experience as well,” said MSPCA-Angell Vice President of Animal Protection, Mike Keiley.
“People often only consider puppies when thinking about getting a dog, but there are a ton of benefits to adopting older dogs as well,” he added. “We’re hoping that this adoptathon helps shine the spotlight on them, and finds them the loving homes they deserve—just in time for the holidays!”
Home for the Holidays!
“We decided to hold this holiday-themed adoptathon earlier in the season because it’s a great time to bring home a new pet,” Keiley expounded.
The Home for the Holidays adoptathon begins Thursday, December 5 and runs through Sunday, December 8. Fees will be waived for all dogs aged one and older at MSPCA shelters in Boston, Methuen, Salem, and Centerville on Cape Cod, as well as WARL, Berkshire Humane, TJO, Lowell Humane and Baypath Humane.
“Adopting now gives animals time to acclimate to their homes before the hustle and bustle of the holidays really gets going,” added Keiley, noting that participating shelters collectively hope to rehome at least 100 dogs.
“It’s a lofty goal in just four days,” he admitted. “So, we’re sending out a call to everyone in the area: If you’ve been considering adding a dog to your home, please come talk to us!”
“Our adoption counselors will sit with you, talk through the process, and can then match you with the perfect pup for your lifestyle, if you decide to move forward.”
Those interested in adopting are asked to visit a participating shelter during open hours, which vary by location. Fees are being subsidized by the Bissell Pet Foundation and Best Friends Animal Society.
