MSPCA-Cape Cod Breaks Ground on New Adoption Center

Notable Cape Codders, Donors Line up to Kickstart Construction of State-of-the-Art Animal Care and Adoption Facility

BOSTON and Centerville, Mass. Nov. 4, 2016 – Only one candidate can secure the top prize following Tuesday’s Presidential election but the MSPCA-Cape Cod is declaring every animal a winner now that ground has been broken on the new adoption center to be built on the organization’s current site in Centerville, Mass.

A ceremony to mark the construction phase of the new adoption center is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 7 at 1577 Falmouth Road in Centerville, and media are invited to attend.

The MSPCA’s “Campaign for Cape Cod” has raised over $2.5 million from over 350 animal lovers to help fund the project, prompting construction to begin before the end of the year.  “We committed ourselves to breaking ground in 2016 and now we are digging—thanks to the generosity of Cape Cod supporters who’ve ensured we could keep this promise to animals and the community,” said MSPCA-Angell President and Sandwich resident Carter Luke.

WHAT:
Groundbreaking ceremony to announce the construction of the all-new animal care and adoption center which, once completed, will include space for medical and behavioral evaluations; a modern treatment and spay and neuter clinic for homeless animals that will be named in memory of Elizabeth Arnold Stevens, who was committed to supporting the Cape Cod community by supporting and expanding the resources available; and a multi-purpose training and education room for greater collaboration with local schools and community groups.

The new center will also provide the space needed to expand a growing roster of community programs such as rabies vaccination and microchip clinics; a burgeoning food pantry for needy pet owners; and programs to socialize pets placed with U.S. veterans and their families.

WHEN:
The 30 minute ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m.  at the MSPCA-Cape Cod, 1577 Falmouth Road, Centerville, Mass. Onsite parking will be available for attending media.

WHO:
MSPCA-Angell President Carter Luke and Cape Cod Director Mary Sarah Fairweather will open by thanking the entire Cape Cod community for supporting the Campaign for Cape Cod over the last two years.  Top MSPCA supporters including Marjorie and John McGraw, Maggie and Kevin Ahearn, MSPCA Board of Directors Chair Hillary Ballantyne and others will speak about their love of animals and their commitment to ensure homeless animals on Cape Cod receive the best possible care before they are adopted into forever homes.

VISUALS:

Attending media will have many and varied opportunities to photograph:
