BOSTON and Methuen, Mass., April 2, 2014 – As organizers of the renowned Silver Oak Jumper Tournament get set to host the event for the first time at its new home in Halifax, Mass. this August, the MSPCA-Nevins Farm announced today it has been selected as the event’s official participating charity.
The event, which is the bringing together of world-class international show jumping competitors and Olympic athletes for a week of exciting show jumping competition, culminating with a $75,000 Grand Prix competition on Sunday afternoon, will be held at Fieldstone Show Park from Aug. 13-17, 2014. Nevins Farm will bring several adoptable horses as well as dogs and other animals that need support for their ongoing care and loving, permanent homes.
“We couldn’t think of a finer charity or cause to include in this year’s Silver Oak Jumper Tournament,” said Show Chairman Jeff Papows. “We already take special care of the children with our Children’s Wish International Foundation contribution each year and now we’ve picked a charity that looks out for the animals. It’s a perfect match.”
“Adopt a Champion”
The MSPCA-Nevins Farm’s official theme for the show, “Adopt a Champion!,” serves as a reminder that there are wonderful equine partners out there who would love the opportunity to prove themselves as future champions. Said Melissa Ghareeb, barn manager at Nevins Farm, “We’re honored to have such a distinct presence at the 2014 Silver Oak Jumper Tournament and, more than anything, the opportunity to show how poised, skilled, strong and confident many of our adoptable horses are.”
The Nevins Farm team will have several horses at the event as well as an assemblage of dogs and other adoptable animals. In addition, “Thunder’s Lemonade Stand,” will grace the grounds. The stand—named after Nevins Farm’s iconic 2,000-pound steer who now lives with other cows among the rolling hills of Farm Sanctuary in upstate New York—will sell premium lemonade to tournament goers, with all proceeds earmarked for the care of animals at the MSPCA.
Celebratory Luncheon
The Nevins Farm team will host a luncheon for tournament goers on Sunday, Aug. 17. Ticket availability will be announced in the coming weeks. The luncheon is an opportunity not only for attendees to dine on gourmet catered food from a vantage point perched just above the live action, but to get up close and personal with adoptable horses and other animals.
“I want to encourage our equestrian community here in New England to support the important work being done by the MSPCA-Nevins Farm to rehabilitate, care for and offer adoption services for horses and other farm animals,” said Peter Wylde, Olympic show jumping gold medalist and Massachusetts native. Peter is the co-chair of the luncheon on Sunday and will be competing in the exciting Silver Oaks Grand Prix competition as well.
The Silver Oak Jumper Tournament was rewarded for its first year efforts with a top ranking from the North American Riders Group (NARG). Silver Oak came in as the 13th-best horse show in North America. “And this year, with our new facility and new excitement, I’m confident that our show will be moving up the rankings list,” Papows added.
