Top Swedish Footwear Company Icebug Equips MSPCA-Angell Dog Walkers with New, “Safe-Grip” Footwear!

All-Weather, All-Season Traction Means Dogs Walked with Confidence on Any Terrain

BOSTON, June 22, 2016 – The dozens of dogs bunking down at the MSPCA-Angell adoption center in Boston are walked on average three to four times per day by dedicated staff members and volunteers who tend to their every need.  At any given time 30 or so dogs and their walkers cover more than 300 miles per week on outdoor walks—which is tremendous enrichment for the dogs, even as the soles of their walkers’ shoes wear down to stubs.

That is about to change thanks to Icebug, a Swedish footwear leader founded in 2001 which donated 20 pairs of shoes from its spring/summer 2016 collection to the MSPCA, to be worn by those who walk dogs all over the organization’s Jamaica Plain, Mass. property.

“Everyone who walks our dogs does so tirelessly—from early in the morning till late in the afternoon and in all weather and new, high-traction shoes will only make it more comfortable for them,” said Alyssa Krieger, who manages the MSPCA-Angell’s Boston adoption center.

Icebug shoes are equipped with a unique rubber compound that provides outstanding traction on wet surfaces, common on the MSPCA’s grounds, and smart studs—which adapt to the surface and even grip on ice.

“We’re delighted that our shoes will be worn by those who work so hard to make the lives of shelter dogs more comfortable and active,” said Becca Steinkamp of Icebug.  “We hope this encourages even more outdoor time for the dogs which, as we know from our own experience as outdoorsy people, makes them happier and calmer.”

Icebug plans to donate another 20 pairs of shoes from its fall/winter 2016 collection later this year to the MSPCA-Angell
