Billie is a smushy young pittie mix looking for her new home! This sweet kiddo likes to hit the trails to explore and sniff around, and loves to wrap it all up with some snacks and couch time with her people. Bille can be a bit reserved at first when making new friends, but warms up quickly and is looking for a patient family who can give an adopted dog some time to decompress in the new home. Billie has had a hard time meeting dogs in her short life, so she would prefer to be the only dog of the family!
Billie’s a dog with a heart as big as her size, so her greetings can be a little on the rude side – potential adopters should be prepared to help her learn how to get someone’s attention without jumping on them! Luckily she is a foodie, and loves to train using positive reinforcement methods.
This sweet, smushy girl has been through a few transitions recently, and may need a gentle start, but once she feels secure, she’ll reward you with endless love and loyalty!
If you think Billie could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday – Sunday from 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm with no appointment or application needed.
Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they are interested in and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.

Meet Bennie, a sensitive and sweet guy looking for a home of his own. He lived a pretty sheltered life before coming to us, so transitions, meeting new people, and interacting with lots of dogs can be hard for him, but once he settles in, his personality starts to shine! Bennie loves to snuggle with his inner circle, and he can be a playful and silly guy when he’s feeling comfortable.
Bennie is looking for a low-traffic home and patient adopters who are excited about meeting a sensitive pup where he’s at and helping him navigate the world at his own pace. Any children in the home should be ready to respect his boundaries when he needs space, and follow his management and training plan.
Stop by our Cape Cod Adoption Center to meet Bennie. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 1pm-4pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
If you are looking for a dog in the size of low-rider house hippo, then Karma is your girl! Once she knows you, this girl is silly and sweet and loves to give sloppy kisses. A perfect day for Karma would be puttering around a pen or playing with her toys. She also does well as an office mate or Netflix buddy because she is so very calm and chill hanging out on a comfy bed close by. In her previous home, Karma did well living with children aged 2 to 8. She has been known to chase cats so she should not live with cats going forward. And since she is selective with her dog friends, Karma should start off as the only dog in the home. Here at the shelter, Karma has been working on her manners. She is doing well because she is oh so smart and she really likes treats. She hopes her new family will continue working with her so she becomes the best dog she can be. Would you like to meet this very good girl?
If you think Karma could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday – Sunday from 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm with no appointment or application needed.

Meet Sunny! This little fella currently shares an enclosure with Blue and would love to go home together with his friend. Sunny is more outgoing and cheerful with Blue and like to be fly around the house for a few hours everyday.

Meet Bambi! This fun loving, pint-sized girl came to us on a transport from a shelter out of state so we don’t know much about her history. What we have found is that she loves to play with her toys and is super snuggly once her needs have been met. We know that she would do best with an adopter who can provide her with some structure and a gentle approach to training while she catches up on her manners.

Our girl Mili is looking for a special home. This low key, older gal is both blind and diabetic. Once she knows you, she is quite a cuddler and is rather nosy as to what you are up to. With all the recent changes in her life, poor Mili can be easily overwhelmed with changes. She is hoping for patient adopters who can both keep her world small and safe, and also help her navigate her new world. Mili has a good history of living with dogs and cats. Due to her recent vision impairment, dog and cat siblings should be on the mellow side. Mili also has a good history of living with children. Mili is a sweet little thing looking for a home of her own. Would you like to meet her?

Meet Azul! They have been waiting patiently at the shelter for their perfect adopter to come along. You are welcome to enter our cat rooms during open hours. Staff and volunteers will be happy to assist you!
Azul is a spirit cat, and if you adopt them, you probably wouldn’t even notice they are in your house if it weren’t for the mysterious overnight disappearance of cat food.
We often can’t predict how a spirit cat will be after they settle in – some become comfortable around their family and choose to spend time with them by sharing the same space or allowing some petting, while others continue to prefer to hide when there’s any commotion. Spirit cats generally prefer to spend their time around other cats and make an excellent kitty friend to a cat already in the home. Our staff can help prepare adopters to welcome a spirit cat into a quiet home, but patience and understanding will go a long way with Azul.
Stop by our Cape Cod Adoption Center to meet Azul. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 1pm-4pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.

This rat is part of a large surrender so we have less individual information about them. The group of females have a good history living with other females, and are social with people. They tolerate handling, but may still benefit from additional socialization, and an adopter that understands it may take them some time to warm up to their new home and the people in it. These rats will need to go home in pairs (or more) or to a home with existing female rats to have as companion.
Rats are nocturnal, highly social and extremely intelligent animals! Due to the highly social nature of rats we prefer to match them with homes with existing rats, or to adopters looking to take home two or more rats. Rats can be food driven (and great foragers!) making them excellent animals to train. We always recommend the use of positive reinforcement training with your animals, and are happy to provide more information on this topic.
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows the rat plenty of space to exercise. The minimum cage size should be 2’x2.5’x2’, with good ventilation (no glass enclosures) and must have a solid base. Preferably the shelter includes multiple levels, with appropriate use of linens or paper bedding and lots of rat appropriate toys. Rats should never be housed with other animals, each species should always have its own housing.
The needs of each rat are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rat you are interested in, please visit us and talk with our volunteers/staff! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

He came to us from a southern shelter so we don’t know much about his history, but he has been playful and snuggly since coming to us. Bologna is still working on all his puppy manners like potty trainig and walking nicely on a leash, so he is looking for a family who is excited about helping him learn how to be the best boy! The God of mischief himself- Loki! Except this squishy faced cutie isn’:t all that mischevious. He’:s a strong gentle giant that enjoys meeting new people and going on walks. While he means well, his strength can sometimes cause a bit of mischeif- perhaps pulling on leahs while excited or jumping up to greet new friends! With some proper training using positive reinforcement, we can turn this sweet boy into the perfect gentleman. He’:s dreaming of a nice quiet oasis to call his home. Unfortunately for this boy, he does have some ongoiong skin issues that will require some support from a veterinarian. That doesn’:t take away from his good looks though- look at that face! Loki would prefer a home and a lifestyle that does not involve other dogs- he wants to be the one and only! If you think this guy could be a match for you, please come meet him!
Stop by our Boston Adoption Center to meet Loki. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm - 3pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
