Meet Mowgli! This bouncy, fun-loving pup is excited to continue learning how to channel his teenager energy into good manners. Mowgli loves to be outside exploring the world, playing fetch, and working on puzzles and toys when back in the home!
Mowgli is looking for an adopter with some patience and who is excited to help a teenage pup learn and grow into the best adult dog he can be. He’s smart and sensitive, he just needs someone ready to provide him with some structure and consistency to his routine, while also helping him learn how to communicate appropriately when he is uncomfortable or frustrated. Mowgli is currently working on some of his home skills and manners, so he would like to be the only pet in the home right now, please!
If you think Mowgli could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday – Sunday from 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm with no appointment or application needed.
Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they are interested in and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.
Meet Stormy, a sensitive 4-year-old boy who is looking for a calm, patient home where he can settle in at his own pace. Stormy will thrive with an adopter who understands feline body language and is willing to give him as much time as he needs to settle in. New people can be especially overwhelming for him—perhaps always—so visitors should give him the option to retreat somewhere safe. When it comes to affection, Stormy is a “pet-me-if-I-ask” kind of cat, so offering your hand first, taking breaks, and respecting his cues will help him feel understood and secure. With time, patience, and gentle handling, Stormy has the potential to truly blossom.
Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Stormy. We have open adoption hours 7 days a week from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
You are welcome to enter our cat rooms during open hours. Staff and volunteers will be happy to assist you!
This dove is part of a large surrender that came to us in part due to overcrowding. They did not receive a lot of socialization so they can be shy and skittish around people, but if given enough time to adjust can be lovely companions. They are currently living in groups and do well with other doves.
Doves can be tamed but tend to be more “hands off” birds. They tend to vocalize throughout the day with a “coo”, dissimilar to the screeching or whistling of many other birds. Doves can be found around the world, and can live up to 10 years with proper nutrition and care. We recommend that doves live in pairs or groups whenever possible.
We recommend a cage that is at least 32”x23” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ?-¾” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of flat surfaces to perch on, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Unlike many other species of birds, doves are unable to climb up cage bars, and tend to move back and forth making a wider cage more appealing to them. Doves should be provided with regular opportunities for bathing, and unlike parrots require grit as part of their regular diet to aid in digestion.
The needs of each dove are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the dove you are interested in, please visit us and talk with our volunteers/staff! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Meet Tyson, a 2 year old pittie mix with a big heart! He loves toys and snuggling with his favorite people. He can be nervous meeting new people and being in new spaces, but once he is comfortable, his silly, energetic personality shines through. Although he hasn’t lived with children, he did well meeting children previously and would do best with children that can be respectful of his space as he settles in, as well as be okay with a rowdy, playful dog once he is comfortable. He says no thank you to living with dogs, but will fill your home with plenty of energy on his own!
Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Tyson. We have open adoption hours 7 days a week from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
Budgerigars, the most common parakeet we see, are native to Australia where they live in massive flocks in the grasslands. Parakeets tend to be docile, gentle, can be easy to tame and can even talk! Despite their small size, these birds can have large vocabularies and can make a wonderful training companion. We recommend that parakeets live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Parakeets can live up to 7-15 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Nests can be provided but should be removed if any females begin to lay eggs. We do not recommend a seed only diet as it can lead to malnutrition and other potential issues, please consult your vet for specific diet recommendations.
The needs of each parakeet are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the parakeet you are interested in, please visit us and talk with our volunteers/staff! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Maple is a cute little girl that’s like a warm waffle—she may take a little time to heat up in new places or with new people, but once she does, she’s all comfort and cozy vibes. With plenty of treats and gentle guidance, she’s eager to learn, train, and soak up all the pets and scratches she can get. Maple could live with another role model dog, a dog-savvy cat, and/or kids who are excited to participate in her training.

Rockie is a young pup who`s smart and full of energy! He loves playing with toys and going on walks, and is very food-motivated and eager to learn. He loves his training sessions!
Being a young pup, Rockie is looking for a family who will show him the ropes and teach him to be the best pup he can be. He can initially be a little worried when meeting new dogs at the shelter, but we think he could do well living with a calm canine sibling who would serve as a role model for him. We also think he`d do well as you`re one-and-only dog!
If you think Rockie could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday – Sunday from 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm with no appointment or application needed.

Scooby is a very playful boy who absolutely loves being outside. He may need some time to warm up to new people, but once comfortable, he’s such a snuggle bug! He’s happiest sitting next to his people, cuddling up with a long-lasting chew, and taking long, cozy naps. His sweet and loving personality bring so much joy into a room, and his unique bark never stops being funny. Scooby’s favorite thing in life is tennis balls, and he has pretty big feelings when people try to take them from him. He’s looking for an adopter who’s committed to reading his body language and never attempting to take items from his mouth – he will trade when offered, and we want him to feel secure with his favorite items. Scooby’s ideal humans are committed to training using positive reinforcement, willing to take things at his pace, and happy to let him self-entertain with his toys before settling down for some snuggle time.

Meet Loki, or affectionately known as Uncle Loki by his friends! Loki is a silly guy with a frosted face, but don’t let that fool you- this guy is active and quite the go-getter! He goes on weekly runs with one of our all-star running volunteers and loves spending his time out on the rail trail. He’s even spent a sleepover at another volunteer who adores him, and he seemed to settle right in! While Loki is a bit reserved at first, he warms up quickly and is looking for a patient family who can give him some time to decompress in his new home. At the shelter, Loki is practicing calm greetings with new dogs, going on car rides with his friends, and settling in an office to get some extra out of kennel time. While on a special diet food, this guy LOVES his enrichment and training, and is quite easily entertained!
If Loki sounds like the one for you, come stop by Methuen to learn more about him during our open hours between 12PM-4:30PM!

Meet Mitzi! They have been waiting patiently at the shelter for their perfect adopter to come along. She is worried, and sweet, so we’re taking it slow as we get to know them and allowing them to build up confidence at their own pace. Mitzi is looking for a patient adopter who can give her a quiet, low traffic home to settle into.
Mitzi is what we call a spirit cat, and if you adopt them, you probably wouldn’t even notice they are in your house if it weren’t for the mysterious overnight disappearance of cat food.
We often can’t predict how a spirit cat will be after they settle in – some become comfortable around their family and choose to spend time with them by sharing the same space or allowing some petting, while others continue to prefer to hide when there’s any commotion. Spirit cats generally prefer to spend their time around other cats and make an excellent kitty friend to a cat already in the home. Our staff can help prepare adopters to welcome a spirit cat into a quiet home, but patience and understanding will go a long way with Mitzi!
Stop by our Cape Cod Adoption Center to meet Mitzi. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 1pm-4pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.

Case is the perfect puppy package handsome, smart, sweet, playful and full of potential. What more could you ask for! At only 8 months old Case`s lucky adopters will get to experience the more `mature` side of his puppyhood (congrats on escaping the nipping-shark-teeth stage!).
Case is a happy, bouncy, wiggly pup who has been responding well to positive reinforcement training since coming into our care. He loves to play and is full of energy, and will make a great companion for a hiker, runner, or anyone who loves being outdoors. Case has done well playing with a few of the calmer dogs at the shelter, but the more rambunctious ones with rowdier play styles seem to make him a little nervous. Because of this, we think Case would be happy as an only dog, or potentially with a canine sibling who is on the calmer, more mellow side.
Case is an eager learner is looking for a patient owner to help him master polite greetings, leash skills, and puppy basicstraining together will be a fun and rewarding journey!

Meet Tyrone! Well, you might not really meet him until a fair amount of time goes by, as he’s very nervous in new situations and around strangers. He’s a cat that enjoys the company of other cats more than humans, so is hoping to go to a home with a feline friend. He’s also looking for a special person (or people) who can take things slow with him, and allow him to dictate what level of interaction he’s ok with. Are you the hero he needs?
I’m in a foster home- Please email karmour@mspca.org if you’d

Meet Alex a lively, lovable pup with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Alex is currently on the road to recovery after TPLO surgery and is recovering from heartworm treatment. While he is on activity restriction for now, do not let that fool you, this boy has energy to spare and a playful spirit thats just waiting to shine once he has healed.
Because of his high energy and temporary limitations, Alex will need a patient and experienced home that can help him channel that zest for life into brain games, enrichment activities, and plenty of mental stimulation. He is working hard on being a good boy during recovery, and he is making great progress with structure and support.
When he has had his fill of mental fun and the zoomies are out of his system, Alex melts into a total cuddle bug. If you`re looking for a smart, spirited companion and you`re ready to help guide him through his healing journey, this squishy guy just might be your perfect match.

Willow’s story is one of quiet bravery. When you first meet her, she may seem shy and unsure, keeping her distance, watching with wide eyes, and taking her time to decide if she’s safe. But once you earn her trust, you’ll get to see the real Willow: a sweet, SUPER wiggly, toy-loving pup who blossoms with joy once she realizes she’s okay.
Outside the stress of the kennel, Willow completely transforms. She runs, plays, and even tosses toys in the air for herself – pure puppy happiness shining through. It’s clear she wants to connect – she just needs patient, gentle people who will give her time to feel secure and show her that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.
Willow would thrive in a calm, understanding home, ideally one without too much hustle and bustle, where she can learn that doorways lead to adventure, not fear, and that every hand reaching towards her is one that means kindness. Adopters should be ready to help her hone her manners once she’s comfortable in her new environment.
Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Willow. We have open adoption hours 7 days a week from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.

This rat is part of a large surrender from an overcrowded home. These rats can be sweet and playful once comfortable but many of them are undersocialized and can be very frightened/avoidant of people. These rats will do best with rat-experienced adopters that are comfortable with aiding them in becoming more social & confident. We have limited history of the group in their previous home, but know that they can be big chewers! As such they will need lots of appropriate chewing (and other) enrichment available to help them channel excise energy in an appropriate manner.
Rats are nocturnal, highly social and extremely intelligent animals! Due to the highly social nature of rats we prefer to match them with homes with existing rats, or to adopters looking to take home two or more rats. Rats can be food driven (and great foragers!) making them excellent animals to train. We always recommend the use of positive reinforcement training with your animals, and are happy to provide more information on this topic.
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows the rat plenty of space to exercise. The minimum cage size should be 2’x2.5’x2’, with good ventilation (no glass enclosures) and must have a solid base. Preferably the shelter includes multiple levels, with appropriate use of linens or paper bedding and lots of rat appropriate toys. Rats should never be housed with other animals, each species should always have its own housing.
The needs of each rat are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rat you are interested in, please visit us and talk with our volunteers/staff! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.
